Starrett tools are among the best made tools, gauges, and mics for true machinists and serious amateurs. I took the great suggestion from the one who converted a Zebra F pen making a click holder for it...very ingenious. Many thanks to the one. Necessity is the mother of invention.

get one of these, a Zebra f-301 pen, and a 15mm long piece of a nail to make it the same length as the ink cartridge, and then take the ink out of the pen, and put the spring on this scribe point, and put it and the spacer into the pen body, and BOOM you've got a clicky scribe that looks exactly like a pen. You won't have another tip fall out, but you might misplace it as a pen - i'd get a color you don't use, like red or pink.

If you don't want to buy additional scribers this is the ticket. Well made and fit both Craftsman and Starret 3/8" pocket scriber. I wanted to give 5 stars but nicked one star as the points didn't come sharp. I will have to touch them up to make them work well/sharp, but that's OK for me. Others might find that inconvenient.

Starrett makes top notch tools. I wasted money on the cheaper ones and regretted it. Buy well to start with and only buy once.

My original one lasted 15 yrs.
