Mushroom House Dried Shiitake Mushrooms, 1 Pound (2 Pack)

Very good mushrooms. Most are as pictured in the bag. Not too big, and the stems are cut shorter than many other brands I have purchased. That makes a big difference in terms of waste. Sure, you can use stems to make a broth or something, but I would much rather not having to deal with that. I also like the idea of paying for the usable part and not paying for the weight of the stems. These mushrooms have good flavor and are nice and meaty after preparation. I use dried mushrooms a lot, so I prepare a surplus and freeze them in small quantities to use in stir-fry, soups, or as a side dish. Pleased with my purchase.

Almost all whole caps and very few stems. We use these in all kinds of recipes. Soak them in boiling water or broth for 30 minutes and slice them up. They are a little bit more meaty than fresh mushrooms but we actually prefer them in sauces or stews as they hold up better.

I really enjoy using sliced shiitakes with udon noodles, tofu, and scallions. I was paying quite the price from my local grocery store for individual 1oz packages of shiitakes. Also, the nearest Asian market is about 45 minutes away, so I thought I would take a chance ordering these online.The mushrooms are absolutely fine. They have an extremely earthy flavor, and rehydrated quite well. They aren't the most gourmet of shiitakes, as they are inconsistent in size, however I never use shiitakes whole because they are rather chewy, so this didn't matter to me. Are they the ideal shiitake with the caps that have perfect cracks on them? No. But for those you will pay a premium price.I have seen other reviews of this product where the people had a problem rehydrating the mushrooms. They rehydrated fine with a 30 minute soak in hot water. I'm wondering if the people that had issues with rehydration weren't familiar with shiitakes, in that the stems must be removed, and typically rehydrated shiitakes aren't cooked whole (even fresh ones are usually sliced because of their texture). The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is that they aren't the perfect consistent sizes that you can get in some packages at Asian markets. Other than that, they were wonderful.

These mushrooms are small, thin, under-nourished, and ugly. They were obviously harvested before they could become full size and plump up. They may have the same nutritional characteristics as better quality mushrooms, but it is hard to be certain of that.It takes about 8 of these mushrooms to get the same amount of mushroom that 3 of Red Bunny mushrooms provide. They came in a see-through plastic bag with no supplier name on it. I will be switching to a different supplier.

These are the tastiest shitakes I've ever had. I ordered another brand last year and they were horrible...small pieces that never got tender and we're mostly stem. Not so with these. Definitely recommend!

I love having shiitake mushrooms in my pantry . Mushrooms have a very short shelf life as fresh but as dried, keep for years, not that a bag of these lovely mushrooms ever last long in our kitchen. Excellent flavor. Soak in hot water for thirty minutes to plump them up for stir fry and casseroles. . Add dried directly to soups and stews at the beginning of the cooking process to simmer in the rich full body flavor to the dish. I remove the stems from large ones due to the tough nature of mature mushrooms. Put the stems and the soak water in the blender and process till smooth. Add the processed stems to your stew or dish and it will thicken and increase the depth of flavor without the toughness of the mature mushroom stems. No waste. I have purchased from this supplier for a while now and every bag is quality. Buy with confidence.

The mushrooms are of a uniform high quality, decent size, and good value. I like the absence of large stems -- they would be hard to cut out even once rehydrated without damaging the rest of the mushroom. Strongly recommended.
