The BEST Lexus GX460 (J150) Transfer Case Gear Oil.

I have a 2017 Lexus GX460 with the lockable Torsen center differential. Fluid capacity is 1.6qts. Both bottles arrived with the foil seal on the mouth intact and no leakage. I had the fluid changed at 110k miles by the dealer and they used the same 75w-80 Lexus/Toyota Gear oil as the front and read differential. I'm in South Texas and it was generally fine. but the transmission began shifting with a few more clunks. I lubed all 6 zerk fittings with Mobil XHP322 Mine and that helped a little, but maybe reduced clunking by 40%. it was still obviously there. Locking the center diff or switching between 4-HI and 4-LO were slow, clunky, and inconsistent. Sometimes took 5 seconds...sometimes 15 seconds. Never less than 5 "Mississippi's".First, I switched to Redline MTL (75w-80 fluid weight) and it was better, but still a little clunky and I could still feel a little stiction in the center differential (it was def unlocked) during U-turns. More drag in the Helical Center Diff. Makes sense. But overall smoother than the Toyota gear oil by an obvious margin.I drove about 300 miles with that and wanted to change it again for two reasons at 132k miles. One, the Toyota gear oil from 110k miles still looked pretty dirty coming out and I was fairly sure the Redline MTL would carry the rest of that dirt away. Second, I wanted to put a magnetic GoldPlug drain plug in the drain port (The OEM plugs were non magnetic; disappointing). Third, I wanted to try MT-LV.Bottom Line: MT-LV is --THE ANSWER-- if you own a Lexus GX460. End of paragraph. Stop looking. It's only about 18% thicker than the absurd, $90/qt Toyota/Lexus 75w Gear oil in a tin can. But it's also a mix of Group V Ester base oils and maybe some PAO (but it mostly Ester) and it's GL-4 rated (it won't erode yellow metals like copper or bronze like GL-V gear oils). It's a vastly more robust oil than the OEM 75w oil and it's also much better suited to longer drain intervals (I will still be changing at normal intervals). There is no downside. Just don't over-torque the drain and fill plugs in the ALUMINUM transfer case body. 27ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench. It's not a lot. You could easily over-do it with a 3/8" ratchet, much less a longer-handled 1/2". ALWAYS replace the M18 aluminum crush washers. Just do it. Don't be cheap.I was able to immediately FEEL the reduced drag as I drove. Especially coasting and at highway speeds. Locking the Center Diff and switching from 4-Hi to 4-Lo has never been faster, more consistent, or smoother. Transition times are now consistently between 1 and 2 seconds. Never longer. Engagements are nearly instant and smooth. YES PLEASE. And this at 97F ambient. The difference at 40F or colder has to be just massive.

Great Transfer Case fluid for my 2018 4Runner.

Great product for my 2018 4Runner Transfer case fluid change. It's MT-LV GL-4, which is what is called out, and it meets the OEM specs from Toyota at about 1/4 the price of their fluid. About 1.2 quarts filled the transfer case, and it took about 35 minutes total. Easy project with correct oil. I bought a cheap $6.00 Pennzoil hand pump to transfer the oil into the transfer case fill hole and that worked just fine. Now I have fresh oil in the front and rear differentials and transfer case. Note: Always remove the fill bolt first so you know you have the ability to refill the fluid. If you take off the drain bolt first and can't get the fill bolt off second, you are in trouble.

Good for 3rd gen Tacoma tcase

Purchased this to do the fluid change on my 2020 Toyota Tacoma transfer case. This gear oil is said to be one of two brands that are acceptable alternatives to the very expensive can of Toyota 75w gear oil that at the time of this review is selling for over $90/litre.The only downside I can see is the Tacoma transfer case takes 1 litre or 1.1 quarts so just getting one leaves you a little short of the recommend refill volume and you have to buy two quarts. Two quarts are still cheaper than the Toyota brand and you can save to left over partial container and only buy one the time you service the transfer case so it's not so bad.I can report that I've had no problem with the transfer case and the truck shifts in and out of 4wheel drive smoothly as ever.
