I own both the HT208D and the HT208F. Both are a great value with a great many useful functions. I originally bought the D model because I wanted to measure the peak inrush current on our RV AC when I was debugging what turned out to be an on board generator problem. Even though I have a lot of good meters at home, none had inrush capability. The D performed very admirably, but as mentioned by many others, the display can be difficult to see in bright sunlight. Still, I liked the meter so much that I wanted a second one. That's where the F model (HT208F) comes in: It's not immediately apparent, but the F is identical to the D except that it has a standard (backlit) LCD display that is visible in bright sunlight. So if this is a concern for you, get the F model. It's a quality meter with features for most everyone.

Bought this meter as I am too cheap to buy the Fluke product of similar functionality. For me, it's my "house meter" for fixing and repairing. Purchased this mainly for the clip on AC and DC current measurement and the inrush feature.For home and hobbyist use, I'd recommend buying this meter as a general purpose accurate "do everything" meter. If I were a professional, the qwirks might annoy me. It is accurate and produces the correct measurement so for occasional use, it's 5 stars.PROS:Accurate, self ranging meter. Does what it says it's supposed to do.Good value for the $Easy to read displayDefaults to DC. For some folks, this is annoying, but good for me.Comes with a thermocouple Type-K temperature probe.CONS:Some readings take time (a few seconds), like resistance. Really too slow for pro use. Most annoying, but certainly OK for occasional measurements.Probe plug-in ports are both red. They're marked +/- correctly buy easy to plug wrong. I marked the negative port black with a marker.There's a temperature display that's always present. Nice, but always in C and can't change to F.Instruction book is minimal. If you know little/nothing about electronics or electrical measurement, you'll need to learn about the functions this meter performs elsewhere.Flashlight function provides minimal illumination. Phone works better as a flashlight.No calibration instructions. For lab use, there's no method to align to a calibration standard.Can you use this for real contract "work"? Absolutely. Don't know how it will hold up, but it will give you proper measurement information. you can trust.Would I use it for contract work? No, the qwirks would drive me nuts. But if you can't afford anything else, it's fine.Bottom line, good meter for occasional use. CAn measure most common electrical parameters accurately.

In my business before I retired, my default electrical test equipment was always Fluke. Not just because it's some of the best available, but because I could write it off as an expense.I'm retired now so cost IS an issue, so when I needed to replace my defunct Fluke clamp meter, I bought the HT208F because of all of it's quite advanced features for the price. The $10 extra to get the "F" display over the "D" display is well worth it because the F version is so much easier to read in sunlight with the backlight available for low light areas.I'll finish up to say that that I am VERY impressed with this meter. It's 1/5 of the cost of a Fluke that has similar options and it's seems to be quite accurate compared to other Fluke meters I still have (including my 117).I now use this clamp meter as often or more than I use my Fluke 117 because of the easier way to measure amps (and Inrush current). I often use the HT208F with the Triplett ET200 AC Line Splitter and GFCI Outlet/Receptacle Tester which makes measuring current even easier.

Was looking for a quality made clamp on amp meter that wasn't too expensive. While I bought it for it's capability to check Inrush current, it makes a pretty decent general purpose meter. Was thrilled to get it before tariffs kicked in. Purchase with confidence.

The first thing any tech is going to do is hang the measurement equipment up, he's going to attach it to something so he's Hands Free. Next, you're going to check fuses or power, but you can't do anything with the meter in your hands. I guess you could say whatever surface is there you could lay your meter in the dirt or grease. The leading brand Fluke got it, & we pay for it, Fluke is at Disneyland when it comes to prices. This company is affordable, but you can't get a magnet to hand the thing up with the unit. hands free. Other than that, the meter works as it should, but you have to have the meter accessible Fluke knew that - why wouldn't a tech working day to day point this simple feature out? Stop clowning around and get a magnet on the next version.

This is the F model. I also own the model one below, i think E.They are the same. This F model just has better backlighting, for working in the sun’s glare.I bought this because i needed another and i liked my first one so much I bought the upgrade.Yep, I recommend.Yes it comes with a case and leads, although not shown on Amazon advertising.
