Really an article - only looks like a (small) book

Innovation Killers, is actually an article length work (approximately 4000 words) that is printed in the form of a small book. Christenson is known as a major force in innovation research so this book deserves serious consideration. The book deals with the question of why well-run companies struggle at innovation and points to the misuse of three core financial tools that inhibit innovation. These are:- The use of discounted cash flow and net present value metrics to evaluate investment opportunities- The assessment of fixed and sunk costs in evaluating future investments- The over-emphasis of short-terms earnings per share to the determent of long term investmentThe discussion of these topics is general in nature and necessarily superficial for such a short work. As such, it has no detailed explanations of these or a list of references. However, a few additional topics are included to support the discussion. These are agent-principal relationships, stage-gate innovation, and discovery-driven planning.Favorite quote: "Arguably, a root cause of companies' persistent under-investment in the innovations required to sustain long-term success is the indiscriminate and oversimplified use of NPV as an analytical tool" (P. 11).While this book presents a compelling argument for thinking more deeply about the effects financial reporting on innovation and it provides a nice example of disruptive innovation in the steel industry, it is several pages too short to really cover the material. I would recommend it for use in an innovation strategy meeting but it is too brief to stand on its own as a book (or even an article) on innovation. Consider Christensen's other excellent books on innovation for a better experience.[...]

article intéressant...juste dommage de le payer si cher (quelques pages) alors qu'on peut le trouver gratuitement sur internet.

Christensen is a must

Clayton Christensen is the best author when it comes to innovation. The book is interesting. I think the issue is of great importance and a more detailed and elaborated mathematical aproach book is required.
