Happy with Our Purchase! This is a must have appliance!!
I got this Instant Pot for my Wife. The amount of amazing meals she has made since we got it have been on point. She's amazed with the functionality of this unit. Once we had a big chunk of beef and started slow cooking it and she over filled it. It Caused the Lid to Malfunction and wouldn't open. So I got on YouTube to check it out and found a self help video. I was able to pop the top off and use a chop stick and was able to over ride the vent and solved the issue. I was the hero!! Now she knows not to overfill it.We are hesitant to use the air fryer or any air fryer for that matter but when she has things turned out good! We would highly recommend this to anyone interested. She couldn't shut up about it for Months! Oh and the cheesecake singles she made were amazing!!

Room for improvement
Update 2-18-2025I've lowered this to a 1 star. This Instapot does not see heavy use. We mainly use the air fryer and pressure cook functions for rice, potatoes, and the occasional roast. Regardless we have owned it since early December and it has already become completely useless. The lid release lever is broken and it will no longer release the lid, or lock. Normally you have to press the lever to the right to spring the latch for it to open. When using the pressure cooker you slide the lever all the way to the left to lock the lid. Now the lever slides freely all the way left or right and will not trigger lid release.-From the beginning when pressure cooking the pressure cooker insert seemed to create a slight pressure seal with the inner pot so would cause the lid to stick a little, but this seemed normal since it would create a seal when pressure cooking. That is not what is causing the issue. Even with the pressure cooker insert not installed, the lid release lever is completely broken and when you see how the mechanism works where it rotates steel plates on the inside, it just seems loud and damaged when it turns. This is after NORMAL use, no adverse conditions or drops or anything that should cause it to fail like this.-Of course, it is too late to exchange it with Amazon, though we did purchase the extended warranty with Asurion, so hopefully we can get this resolved in a timely manner without too much trouble. But if I had to pick a product again, this would not be my choice. The item it replaced was far superior and it is just unfortunate they no longer manufacture the Ninja Foodi OL-701.Original Post--We needed to replace our Ninja Foodi OL701 and since that is no longer offered by Ninja or anything similar at this time, we decided to try this Instapot out. It seems like it will do everything our old Ninja did but a little less convenient. Do not get me wrong, so far this has been a very nice appliance but I just want to point out some things it lacks that the product it replaced had. Perhaps Instapot will consider this for future models.1. The biggest ISSUE is that I have not been able to set up the WIFI app and remote. We would follow the instructions and it seemed like it connected only for the app to show it disconnected. I had to remove the appliance from the app and try connecting it a couple more times. The last time I tried it gave me a different message in the APP saying "Connected but Remote option not turned on in the appliance check the manual" The thing is the manual has NOTHING regarding a remote function only the WIFI instructions I had followed. There was no button on the appliance console. So I will need to contact Instapot after the Holidays to ask how to get that functioning.2. Small issue, there is not an ON/OFF button. Even if we want to leave it on in the ready status for us to access through WIFI. There should still be an ON/OFF button.Recommendations:1. This is a recommendation. The Ultimate LID is a lot nicer than having separate lids. However you still have to swap the Pressure cooker/steamer inner lid off and on. The Ninja Foodi OL701's lid needed no swapping out and could perform ALL its functions. So if it can be done without having to swap any parts, that would be a nice improvement for the future.2. I was a little disappointed the only size for the ultimate lid was a 6.5qt. The Ninja Foodi OL701 was an 8qt. A larger capacity would be a nice option for the future. (Especially since air fryer baskets and stuff take up space and we need to keep separation from the lid)3. The accessory grate for airfrying is a bit awkward as things fall off the sides and the handles take up space in the middle. The Ninja Foodi OL701 used a fry basket that sat within its main chamber this basket could be pulled out whole and not spill from the sides.I will be absolutely honest. If Ninja had not discontinued the Foodi OL701 I would have not purchased this Instapot. Though this Instapot was always the 2nd choice and the Lid of the Ninja does not need to have a part added or removed, the larger capacity, and the better-designed air-fry basket, were all reasons I purchased the Ninja in the first place and sought to replace it.That being said, the Instapot is a GOOD system and has had great reviews and much love from those who use it. Despite it falling short of the Ninja in my opinion, this is still the second-best all-in-one I have come across. Now if I can just get the WIFI component of this product to work as promised it should be a great tool for our kitchen. I only hope that Instapot considers a larger capacity, that is probably my biggest disappointment going from an 8qt to a 6.5qt. I'd have given this 4 stars if not for the WIFI issue and the poor instructions in the manual provided.

Versatile but takes time to learn
If you’ve never used a pressure cooker before, there’s a learning curve and I’d recommend getting a general book on it (I’m still searching for a good one). The main reason I bought it is because New York City is supposedly phasing out gas for reasons of safety (think exploding buildings) and indoor air quality (get an indoor air quality meter off Amazon, fire up your gas range and you’ll be alarmed). This device has a single hinged lid that integrates an airfryer/broiler/roaster element and (removeable) pressure cooker lid. This, it can theoretically replace everything including your oven, stove top, microwave, and toaster because it’s all those things. Obviously, if you want to make a whole big sheet of cookies, then this doesn’t have room for that, but yes, you can technically bake a handful of cookies. It’s best for making anything soupy or stewy, and is surprisingly good at making a kind of “steamed” cake. A handful of YouTube and Reddit reviews report not being able to open the lid for hours - ok there are some tricks:1. Unlike most pressure cookers with the controls on the outside, this is a hands-free “self sealing and releasing” mechanism that’s all internal. The way it works is the internal valve is in a dropped position at the outset; as the pressure builds it forces the valve upwards to seal the pot (ie close the vent) and start cooking. When cooking is done and pressure is released the valve drops down again, opening the vent which causes the pot to display “ok to open lid.” Now, because of condensation, the valve may stay stuck in the upward position. So you just whack it with your hand which causes it to drop. Then you should get the “open lid” message. It’s a bit of a kluge but there you go. 2. When in doubt, put less cooking time. This thing will turn anything to mush otherwise. It’s amazing how you can dump frozen chicken thighs or frozen fish in there, hit 2 to 4 minutes and the stuff actually comes out cooked. In fact, to reheat soup you put zero mins cook time and the mere act of the pressure building up is enough to heat it up. Amazing. 3. When in doubt, make sure you put enough water in there when pressure cooking. The rule of thumb seems 1-2 cups. If it’s not enough, the thing throws up an error and you may have to start over.I was on the brink of returning it within the window after experiencing many of these issues, which I resolved with a lot of googling (always put “reddit” in front of any query and you’ll get an intelligent answer). Having taken the time to figger it out I’m pretty impressed, especially with the minimal cleanup. No oil spattered kitchen! Best of all, the monster fits in my 15-inch IKEA pot drawer so it’s not like the Death Star sitting on my counter. The only competing device is the top of the line Ninja which I understand comes with a slew of additional accessories, but I think the inner pot is either ceramic or enameled. I prefer the solid stainless steel pot of the Instant Pot.Finally, the earlier models with the completely removal lid also have removable sealing rings and some people reserve one for curries and another for cakes. The sealing ring here is permanently bolted on, and there are comments about it soaking up smell of curry, which will mess up your cake. I’ve not had an issue with this and believe life’s too short to worry about it.In sum, recommended but there’s a learning curve.
