Its so loud and annoying its perfect!!
This is an awesome whistle. I referee an adult mens soccer league and they all hate me because of this whistle. Its got a perfect pitch but different from other whistles. Loud with not much effort needed. Fits pefectly in the hand, very light and comfortable. Truly works great and great price. I am buying a spare as back up and recommending to my other fellow referees.

Super loud!
As a whistle blower for a New Orleans marching krewe this whistle gets the job done. The ladies can hear it for rows and rows and know when we are about to start dancing.

Wow, I didn't think I would have so much to say about a whistle!
Awesome whistle, slightly lower register makes the sound more pleasing to me.I have found it is a bit harder to blow on it with a consistent force - as it is pea-less, it will never "clog" (not that that ever happened to me even in pouring rain, but nonetheless...) - if you blow on it softly, it really makes an underwhelming sound. For this whistle to work, you need to block the tip with your tongue as you build up pressure inside your mouth and then release the tongue rapidly which then blasts the sound (almost like spitting). Going full blast is simple, the trick is being able to blow at moderate levels. There are actually videos online that will teach you :)In terms of the finger grip, it is very nice and love not having a lanyard bothering me. At first it was slightly loose on my hand and I was afraid I might drop it, but it is actually a metallic clamp so if you apply a bit of force you can bend it inwards (or outwards) to adjust the grip force but sturdy enough that it won't bend out of shape by itself. It's really comfortable and with the rubber coating there's zero chance it will slide out. The only thing I would have preferred is the ability to separate the whistle from the grip - it is built in a way that I don't think you could do so without breaking the base.I'm now using this for futsal as well. Not as comfy in that environment because for futsal you have to switch hands permanently as you need to signal with either hand based on the direction of play, which reverses quickly and constantly. I basically just grab it in my hand which is what you do with a regular itty bitty whistle. This feels a bit awkward because of the clamp but it works just fine. In fact for some people it may be preferable as it adds a bit of heft. The only final thought is that for what it is, the price feels a bit salty - think about it: for the price of 2 whistles you can buy a mini drone nowadays! So, sure, a 50 cent whistle will do the trick for most non professional refs. But, this will increase your field presence a notch or two :)

Fox 40 Pearl+++ Is the way to go!
Come on dudes, bring back the Fox 40 Pearl with Fingergrip AND Mouthguard! The standard Fox 40 sounds to me like a high pitched toy whistle. Keeping your mitts on it in the cold, wet, and wind can be a chore, so it needs a lanyard of some kind. With the finger grip you know where the whistle is at all times and you don't have to worry about losing it or losing your grip on it. (Ever had a whistle twirling around your wrist while trying to grab it to make a call, furious about not making the call on time? No, me either. That's why the finger guard.) In cold temperatures a mouthguard is nice. It doesn't stick to your lips when wet. A mouthguard helps keep you from banging the whistle against your teeth or slicing up your lips in the cold, wet, and wind. If you have games on adjoining fields/rinks/courts the Pearl sounds different than the regular Fox 40 most of the other yahoos are using, so you get fewer calls made by other referees interrupting your game. Fox 40 Pearl with Fingergrip AND Mouthguard is the way to go!

Loud...
Great whistle for officiating athletic events. Fits around 2 fingers comfortably and is loud when blown. No complaints about people not hearing the whistle.

Requires precise usage
I use this whistle to referee soccer.I do love the finger grips (vs a lanyard) but the ones on this whistle are not easily adjustable, and the size is kind of in between 2 and 3 fingers for me.Also, it has to be held at just the write angle to blow correctly, which can be hard to do while I'm moving down a soccer field.
