Just like I remembered. But better!
Yes, I am one of those parents who gift my kids nostalgic toys from my childhood. Actually, I think the Lite Brite we played with was already a decade old when we unearthed it. But this one is light (lite - see what I did there!) years ahead of its predecessor.PROS:- NO CORD! A few double AAs and it's ready to go. Making it transportable around the house, and into the car seat for longer road trips.- The storage for the pegs is wonderfully secure. Almost too secure for my youngest's little preschool fingers.- It comes with pre-made shapes! Kind of a cop out on the imagination front, but actually gave the littles more direction when they wanted to create scenes that needed a fish, or a sun.- Multiple light settings. Flashing lights. Steady. Making each of their creations even more individual.CONS:- I worry about the kids actually remembering to run through all of the light phases. Which will end up with us burning through way more batteries than necessary.- We didn't get the outline sheets that would allow the kids to get a handle on how to "draw" with their light pegs. Minor inconvenience. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to play with... um, "show" them how to make pictures.Nostalgia met. Technological advances added. Great fun for all of us.

A favorite toy for my 2 and 4 year old.
Both my 4 year old and 2 year old really enjoy playing with this. They especially like to play with it inside their fort where it is nice and dark. Unlike the Lite Brite I had as a child, this one has different shaped pegs and the kids seem to enjoy that feature. I like that no black paper is required (like the old model). The new design automatically blocks the light until you insert the peg, so no need to keep buying paper refills! I like the handy green thing on the side that provides a place to store the pegs. I noticed that you can disconnect it and reconnect it to the other side if you have a left-handed child. This was a good purchase. The kids like it and it keeps them occupied for a long time (and it doesn't make any annoying noises - bonus!)

Fun toy
I remember playing with Lite Brite when I was a kid and love that my kids can play with it too. Like other reviewers, I also don't like that the light is so dim. It's really not as much fun to play with during the day when it's bright out. But it's cool that they have multiple light settings (on, blinking, blinking in sections...). The templates are nice since you can use them over and over. The only down side there is if you decide not to do the picture exactly as is, you'll be left with the outlines showing, but I suppose that's kind off a moot point because if you're doing the templates you're wanting to copy it exactly anyway. ;) The one complaint I really have is the box that holds the pegs is awkward to open when it is attached to the toy. It is nice because you can attach it to either the right or the left side. My kids still really enjoy playing with it. For the price it's fun and I don't regret buying it.

mid-grade
I thought this was a dim dud untill i decided to open it, there was a piece of cardstock used to keep wires in place which was obstructing the lights. so, not the wellest-made, but still a light-bright.

Fun
Brought this for the grandson, 3+ and he loves it. Plays with it for a good amount of time and loves the pegs.

Could be better but kids can still have fun with it
Well, my kid has fun with it so far, however I was disappointed that there aren't enough of the suggested color pegs to complete and entire template (like there aren't enough yellow circle pegs or square blue pegs), which, okay we can change it up a bit, unless your child is insistent on using what the template calls for.And like another user said, it is REALLY dim, nothing like what the pictures show on the box. I gave it three stars because my kid is having fun with it (once he got over not being able to follow the template exactly) and the fact templates are reusable so it wasn't a complete waste of noney, but it definitely isn't the same or even close to the original, it doesn't come with enough pegs, and even though the templates are reusable, they aren't that great ("boys rock!" and "girls rule" are two of them, which put me off because I dont understand why they couldn't be generic flowers and guitars, since girls can like guitars and boys can like flowers, but that is just a personal opinion, not a total deal breaker for me)The pictures I include is in a well lit room, same room but with only sunlight (on a rainy day), and a pitch black closet)

My daughter's favorite Christmas gift!
Bought this for my 9-year old daughter for Christmas as an add on present, thinking it was just a little extra present but she loves this thing so much she takes it with her everywhere. It's better and worse than the one I had as a kid. It's better because it's very transportable. The pieces all fit into the attached green plastic box piece. She can take it anywhere and does. She loves playing with it in the car. For some reason it keeps her busy for hours. I don't get it but whatever makes her happy! But it's worse than the old one because it takes batteries and the designs are so simple that the kids get done in a few minutes. I remember all those pegs when I was little. One picture was an hour long project. But she loves it!

I was pretty surprised to receive this - I was a Lite ...
I was pretty surprised to receive this - I was a Lite Brite kid, back when they looked like old, boob tube monitors. So this little guy showed up and I was surprised at it's small design! Handy to have space for all the pegs, and there were some pretty cool pegs that come along - tires, sunshine, bird, etc. Pushing the button multiple times yields different light results (i.e. flashing, etc). Bought this along with the light writing pad and that's in the garbage and this sits on our table!! Great help for my little boy that needs fine motor help. I wish the "screen" were a little larger, but this goes back to my old childhood, massively-large toy, I suppose. Cute toy!
