1 cup of rice (portion) will take 12 min to 20 minutes depending on the kind of rice your cooking(jasmine, long grain, or brown). For capacity the 1 litre is better to maximise your use of it as a steamer due to its wider size.

Q: is there a on/off button?

The on/off button is via the mains. Once the rice and water are in the cooker, switch on at the mains. The cooker will automatically go to warm mode. You then flick down the switch to cook mode. When the rice is cooked, it will automatically switch to warm mode, to keep the rice warm and moist. Hope this helps.

Q: Can I clean the pot in the dishwasher?

Yes you can, but its easy to clean under the tap with scourer. Makes Fab rice.
