As a whistle for boating or getting help when lost a lower pitch can be heard farther than a hi pitch. This whistle has a very hi pitch and that is what I wanted. When riding my bicycle or walking some times a dog will attack. This whistle is painful to a dog (and you!) stopping them in there tracks most of the time. I love dogs and I don't like to call the animal control officer if there is another choice. For kayaking I believe the Fox 40 classic may be better. Same company.

I love this whistle and would give it five stars if not for the silicone wrap. A couple months in the Texas heat turned the silicone that wraps around the body of the whistle into a gummy sticky and unpleasant mess. I scraped it all off in order to keep using this whistle, because it still works very well. Great volume and sharp tone gets attention every time. I used it as a lifeguard, but any time you need to be heard, Fox 40 is the way to go!

This is louder than the traditional Fox 40. So, I make my players use it when officiating. I also encourage use of ear plugs when using these. It just doesn't make sense to do a good job officiating and then have to play with a headache and ringing ears.

Nice, compact, durable, and a loud whistle. This whistle works great for me on my search and rescue pack. Plan to get 2 more.

It might not be the loudest whistle out there, but it's well-made, quite high-pitched and plenty loud.It requires a little bit more breath power than my other whistle but it's much louder. This would definitely get someone's attention.
