This is iron is terrific!! I was a bit wary and sceptical about the iron not having temp controls and relying on it to recognise the different fabrics. So with apprehension I started off ironing a cotton top, then polyester/wool trousers and then a polyester shirt. It glided effortlessly over all three garments and not a scorch in sight!!

Yes, I received the iron much earlier than I expected. It looks great and works perfectly. In my opinion, it’s like the Mercedes of irons.There’s only one thing I’d like to point out that I wasn’t happy about. I selected the option for the package to be hidden inside another box, so it wouldn’t be obvious what I had ordered. However, the parcel arrived in its original packaging. I understand that Amazon wants to reduce the use of extra boxes, and that makes sense. But if I specifically choose the option that requests discreet packaging, that preference should be respected.

Okay, here is an honest review. I bought this iron (the Philips PerfectCare Elite Steam Generator Iron GC9630/20) in December 2017, Before that, I bought a similar Iron in May 2015 (GC8650/80) which is more expensive. So the 1st iron (2015 one) lasted 2.5 years but I used tap water. This iron I used de-ionised water (from well known UK super market). This iron just broke down yesterday (16/03/2025). So, it lasted 7 years, 2 months. The valve which builds up the pressure began to fail and started making a lot of noise. In that 7 years, It's never leaked and never burnt any clothes. The plate is still flawless and I use the iron every week for a family of 4 for about 2-3 hours at a time (377 weeks).To be honest most irons should last a similar time if using de-ionised water. My previous iron plates have detreated and burnt clothes so the Philips plate technology is pretty good. It takes about 2 minutes to warm up and create the steam and once up to pressure. It maintains that pressure throughout the ironing cycle where very rarely, you would have to wait to build up the pressure again (i.e. when you blast the steam for ages). It's light, quick, the lead and steam pipe stores away in cavities around the edges, it has about 1.5m cord length so you need to be close to a socket, removes most creases effortlessly and 1 tank of water lasts about one 2.5 hour session of ironing.Since 2017, it's gone up about £40 but as I'm quite impressed by it's performance so today, I have ordered the same iron again. It is expensive and I am sure I could find a cheaper one but after long time, you get so used to this iron, does not make sense to go into the unknown. Lets see if the new one outlasts the old one. Well done Phillips. A little expensive but a great product.

Fantastic steam generator to use. Lightweight iron with long pipe allowing you to site the water unit on a worktop & still iron the full length of a large ironing board. Easily removes creases from a large pile of mixed ironing without you having to sort due to the single heat setting. Unfortunately I have had to have the unit repaired three times already in 18 months due to issues with the sole plate - it stops heating up & water instead of steam comes through. It's heading back for a fourth time time now so the 2 year warranty has been beneficial and easy to arrange repairs but I'd have rather not have to!!

This and an extra large ironing board cuts my Airbnb ironing time in half.

I don't think I realised how convenient it would be to just be able to put the iron down flat, rather than have to balance it upright!I love that I don't have to fiddle with the temperature and carefully order what I'm ironing, just grab the next thing and go, and that the steam trigger is an actual trigger, rather than an awkward steam shot on the top like my conventional irons all were.It's very light, and what it says about the steam going through multiple layers is true (although I still tend to do both sides if what I'm ironing is double layered - just for the best finish)I have had to buy a new ironing board cover - like other reviewers I was getting damp patches occasionally, but it wasn't dripping from the iron, it was the water collecting and coming up through my ironing board cover (it was actually dripping from underneath too) but since buying a thick cover specifically for steam generators that's not been an issue.I love it - I iron my son's shirts once a week for school, and this has dropped the time per shirt from over 3minutes to just over 2 minutes - plus, because it's light and smooth I've started ironing pillowcases and teatowels so they stack better in the drawers. Truly 5 star upgrade based on a normal iron.

Great Iron, bought this iron in the past, a great design cord length satisfactory, glides through clothes with ease weight not to heavy, value for little expensive.
