I wish I had this years before
I bought the CZUR Shine Surface Pro Professional Document Scanner about three weeks ago. This unit will let me finish scanning the family photographs and empty my filing cabinet. In the time since I set this unit up, I have scanned almost 5000 items. It has had a little learning curve, not bad, but some. I read many reviews and have found some were a little uninformed. I hope this will help clear up some of the misunderstandings.First, the photographs. Some reviewers stated that it was not great at doing photographs (as in Glossy). I found if I shut the light off on the scanner and use the rooms bright lights as the light source it worked quite well. The photographs that was borderless and dark, I found that instead of the black pad the comes with the scanner that a large section of white paper works great. I used the color setting to scan all of the photographs including the black and white. I did not correct the photographs in the scanner software, I did the post editing in another program. If you scan a lot of old photographs, you should take a soft brush and brush off the black mat because dust and specs of dirt can confuse the software. There is a note about the scanning process that I will come back to later.Scanning documents is pretty straight forward. The process is fast and the automatic function is great. I was able to scan a hundred documents within a few minutes. I edited some documents before saving in the PDF format. I scanned a catalog and the software did function as advertised and removed the curve from the image. The Wishlist. I have used other scanning software from different companies. There is a few things I want to mention here. I had to use a third party software to batch rename the photographs. I wish this software the ability before scanning to setup the batch name for the set you will be scanning (name, starting number and step sequence.) The next item on the list is a white pad. It would be better than a piece of paper. Another item that would be of use is a suction table. A table that uses a downdraft that suck the document or photograph down and lay flat. The webcam function is the only thing that has confused me. When I use the scanner software, the only camera that I can access is the one pointed at the pad. The camera on the top of the column will not come on. It is accessible with the camera app in windows. It does not bother me because I have no need to use the webcam.

THIS SCANNER WOULD NOT REPRODUCE VIVID COLOR IDENTICAL TO THE IMAGE BEING SCANNED
I purchased to use to scan photographs and my stamp collection. The hardware (scanner) was easy to setup. I returned this scanner as I could not get scanned images (no matter resolution, type of format saved, playing with various lighting) - THIS SCANNER WOULD NOT REPRODUCE VIVID COLOR IDENTICAL TO THE IMAGE BEING SCANNED, no matter how much I tried. The SOFTWARE for the scanner was never able to 'lock on' to the edges of my scan - so that useful software tool to level/square the image was useless. I didn't try any books or black/white - just after two days of trying to make it work I packed it up and returned it to Amazon.

A Good Product with Poor Instructions
Update (Final - 27 May 2024): The company offered to replace the product in February 2024 which I appreciate, but due to time constraints and needing the system for a class, I could not pursue that option. Instead, I fixed the issue myself which in all likelihood voids the warranty. It is likely the issue I found was a quality control anomaly at the factory given the connectors were glued in place, otherwise the product has been outstanding.Update (17 Feb 2024): After two weeks successful use, the scanner started cutting in and out - nothing changed since I first used it when it worked fine. It is now indicating "Looking for device", finding it and showing me the report to be scanned, then cutting right back to "Looking for device" before a scan can occur. Typically it all ends now with "The device is disconnected." I have tried different computers (all up-to-date Windows 10 OS), different cables, and rebooting numerous times while the scanner is on and while it is off. Not so happy with the scanner that does not scan anymore! This product is outstanding and easy to use once you find a good CZUR instruction video on-line. The instructions that come with the product are almost useless. Initially it seemed the product was defective until I viewed a tutorial on-line. The "systems disconnected" error was due to not knowing that the scanner needs to be turned on first - push the round knob on the platform - that also adjusts light level - down for about 2 seconds until the blue light on the platform is solid and not pulsing. Many comments on-line indicate others were experiencing the same problem. Once operational, you can copy two pages of a report about every 10 seconds using the auto-detection mode for page turning. Experiment with the light level before copying to make sure the print is clear when saved. PDFs can be made searchable.

Does not fit US plug
I ordered the scanner and was excited to test it out. Unfortunately it did not come with a plug compatible with US outlets. There were two adapters with the power cord, but neither were a normal US plug. Find a different scanner or model that works with US plugs.
