Axis & Allies: Anniversary Edition - 2-6 Players - Ages 12+ - 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition Over 600 Plastic Miniatures, Huge 24" by 46" Game Board and New Cruiser Units

New rules are cool, especially Italy and China, not sure how well balanced it is, Allies still seem at a disadvantage but I'm just a casual player...

I entered the Axis & Allies space through 1940 Global, which is a huge and complex version of the game, with perhaps the most units on the board, as well as overall huge board space. Anniversary is perhaps a slight step down from that, but it makes the game more manageable. It deletes a couple of the units from Global, namely mechanized infantry and tactical bombers, and does not have airstrips or seaports as infrastructure. Also, major/minor industrial complexes are not distinguished. Overall, some of the nuance of logistics and troop movement is reduced, but it does tend to make the game more manageable and a little faster. In addition, the count of territories/sea zones is a little decreased, resulting in some single-turn strategies that aren't quite possible in Global.I found on my initial playthrough that adjusting to the differences made it a bit harder for me to predict the outcome of certain strategies. Scandinavia becomes an easy access point for the allies, for example, and the distance between the Pacific/Indian oceans and Suez Canal makes it more possible for Pacific units to end up in the Mediterranean.Placement of reinforcements is likewise an adjustment, since industrial complexes have capacity based on the IPC value of the territory, instead of being major/minor. There are some other nuances, to be sure, but these are the main ones. I do enjoy how national objectives are central, as well as a revamped method of obtaining technologies. You can play without these if you wish. Also, the game comes with instructions for 1941 or 1942 play, so two versions in one. This gives you a total of 8 different combinations of year and tech/objectives possibilities, if my math is correct.The game stands out in the organization in the box. I really like the design of the faction boxes, each with their own setup/IPC cost and other pertinent information on a card which fits in their box. The game board comes in 3 unconnected panels. All fits together inside a very large box extremely well.I was a bit disappointed with Amazon's packing. The first copy I received was badly dinged, and no wonder, as it was in a larger box without any cushioning materials. Maybe fine for a smaller and lighter game, but this one is so big and heavy that the corners easily crushed. My second copy (an exchange) fared better, but was still poorly packed.All in all, I think this is a fantastic single-box option for experiencing almost all of the nuance and completeness of Axis & Allies play, with a really special physical presentation.

We have played numerous versions of this game....1942.2 is by far the worst edition, when considering, incorrect rule book, misspellings, no battle board, incorrect setup cards....the list goes on. This anniversary edition is by far the best thought out. Very nice!!

This board game Axis and Allies has become an American Classic board game. Not sure how many people like this game, but it is a game that for young it engages the mind and makes a young person think strategically. for older people it is entertaining and fun, and it also engages the mind and makes any person think of what to do. The anniversary edition is one of the best Axis and Allies games that has been created. the game does take a long time to play, but it is worth it. The pieces to this game are detailed. If a person was just to buy one version of the Axis and Allies board game the Anniversary Edition is the one to get. worth the money, Probably going to be a collector's item some day.

After 30 years of playing on my OG game, I was ready for a replacement. I am very happy with the quality of the game pieces and the play map.Axis and Allies is a fun game that you can introduce younger players, but still provide challenge for older players.

I had this game as kid. 1960s. It was a good game then. Simple.This anniversary edition is very large. A lot of pieces. Instruction book is a 31 page magazine.But setting it up and playing, even as a SOLO player is fun.It's expensive but worth the cost.
