Excellent document scanner
CZUR Shine Surface Pro scanner is an excellent product. It is very convenient compared to flatbed scanners especially for bulk scanning needs. The delivery was fast and on time. The packaging is good and protective of sensitive parts like camera and lights. The build quality of the device is top notch. The supporting rod and camera rod seem to be made of a metal. The base plate is sturdy and provides good support. The base plate has three extra USB ports, one on right side and two on left side.Quality of foot pedal, cables and power adapter is good too. The power adapter came with US, UK and European plug attachments.Only one step assembly is required, attach camera rod to the base plate which can be easily done with the provided allen key. All the required cables have different ports and clearly marked on base plate so no possibility of confusion. Provided finger cots are of good quality plastic and helpful in scanning thicker books. The webcam part has smooth but not too loose swivel functionality. It looks good on the desk. The software is easy to download from their website. It has two main functionalities, scanner and visual presenter. It asks to choose the functionality you want to use at the start of the program each time. No problem in detecting the device by the software. I have only used it on Windows 11 so far. The user interface is efficient and functional. It opens in page/image edit screen; it shows scanning related settings after you click on scan button. All the scanning functionalities advertised seem to be working fine. Scanning thick books with finger cots works perfectly if you follow the instructions given in the sticker on their bag. A few times it missed to identify separate papers and clubbed two nearby papers in single image instead of separate image, but that's a rare and not regular occurrence.Overall, quite satisfied with the performance of the scanner software. I haven't tried visual presenter part, but it looks very functional. The general performance of the scanner and the software is excellent and seem to fulfil all the features mentioned in Amazon description. As mentioned above, hardware is excellent, and software is pretty much self-explanatory so under normal circumstances support wouldn't be required. But I had to contact them as a part got damaged due to my mistake in further transportation. I emailed them in a last-ditch effort, and surprisingly their replies were swift and to the point. They provided efficient and very generous solution for my problem. I have never seen such willingness to help a customer from any company, especially when it was not their fault to begin with. The support team at CZUR is excellent, helpful and fast.I'll most certainly buy CZUR if I ever need a scanner again. Hopefully they'll come out with a wi-fi (with Bluetooth for foot pedal) version of this scanner.

A very nice scanner at a great price
I bought the scanner for an archival project. I'm very happy with the software. Lots of functionality. The foot pedal is a nice touch and works well. The scans are high resolution. Plus, the scanner doubles as a presentation device for my classroom. Great value for the money.Plus, after purchasing, the manufacturer contacted me to say they wanted to send me a free carrying bag for the scanner as a thank you. I've got the bag and it too is well made.

It's good enough for the cost
If you're just scanning documents with no gloss, this scanner will work great. I use it for digital images of my comic collection, which tend to have some degree of shine and varying colors. The only exception is foils, and you can see in the attached pictures why that is. I'll go through the images one at a time, or you can skip to the meat and potatoes below.Let me preface by saying I don't have professional lighting, and I am using artificial light in a dark room.Holy Roller: You can see it's a pretty solid image. There are some compression artifacts, but not a ton. The lighting is bright enough that it's washing out the vividness of the colors a bit, but it has to be that way if I want to cut down on the artifacts. The scanner cost me just over a hundred USD, and I have no natural light. I am extremely satisfied with this image.Kill Your Darlings: Another solid image with the only difference being the amount of stark contrast. Look at the wrinkles on her clothing and her hair. Due to the lack of colors in the mid range of brightness there are a lot more compression artifacts in this image. Again, I am satisfied with how this turned out.Batman foil: This one was not a keeper, much like every full cover foil I have attempted to scan with this device. You can see the natural bow of the front cover caused the right edge to be completely blacked out. DC in the bottom right is cut off. Compression artifacts galore. Finally, the best part: you can see, clear as day, the reflection of the scanner camera arm in the bat symbol. I have tried so many different ways of scanning foils to get a good image. It rarely works and is wildly inconsistent. I gave up and switched to a normal camera.G.I. Joe: I just included this because it will give you a good idea of the quality of a black and white image. It's clean and crisp with very few compression artifacts. I can zoom in, and the image will retain its sharpness. Don't mind the glare in the title, that was my own fault.Meat and potatoes: It's a satisfactory scanner for the price range and the conditions in which I am scanning. It doesn't handle mostly dark images very well, and it has trouble with light colors on top of other lighter colors, and by that I mean something like a light yellow on top of white. However, it can scan out to A3, and I don't know if you've seen the cost of most scanners that can handle A3 size, but they are easily, at minimum, double the price of this one, and there's no guarantee of better quality images.Options: This one comes with some options like adding a watermark, batch cropping, auto adjusting the quality, and auto scan. There are a few export options: PDF, searchable PDF, Word, Excel, and TIFF. Anyone with Paint 3D, which comes standard on Windows 10 and 11, can convert TIFF to pretty much any other image file type, like JPEG or PNG.Finally, the absolute best quality of life feature this scanner has: the foot pedal. No joke. I don't have to worry about where my mouse is. I can just get my document adjusted and click the foot pedal. No reaching back over to my mouse to click the scan button. If you're looking to quickly scan a ton of images, the foot pedal enables that on an entirely different level.

A Good Product with Poor Instructions
Update (Final - 27 May 2024): The company offered to replace the product in February 2024 which I appreciate, but due to time constraints and needing the system for a class, I could not pursue that option. Instead, I fixed the issue myself which in all likelihood voids the warranty. It is likely the issue I found was a quality control anomaly at the factory given the connectors were glued in place, otherwise the product has been outstanding.Update (17 Feb 2024): After two weeks successful use, the scanner started cutting in and out - nothing changed since I first used it when it worked fine. It is now indicating "Looking for device", finding it and showing me the report to be scanned, then cutting right back to "Looking for device" before a scan can occur. Typically it all ends now with "The device is disconnected." I have tried different computers (all up-to-date Windows 10 OS), different cables, and rebooting numerous times while the scanner is on and while it is off. Not so happy with the scanner that does not scan anymore! This product is outstanding and easy to use once you find a good CZUR instruction video on-line. The instructions that come with the product are almost useless. Initially it seemed the product was defective until I viewed a tutorial on-line. The "systems disconnected" error was due to not knowing that the scanner needs to be turned on first - push the round knob on the platform - that also adjusts light level - down for about 2 seconds until the blue light on the platform is solid and not pulsing. Many comments on-line indicate others were experiencing the same problem. Once operational, you can copy two pages of a report about every 10 seconds using the auto-detection mode for page turning. Experiment with the light level before copying to make sure the print is clear when saved. PDFs can be made searchable.

need owners manual
The unit came with a small paper for how to set it up, but no information on how to use the unit. A QR code with a note for "detail information" was on the sheet, but since I do not have a phone, I had to call my daughter to have assistance to find out how to install and operate the unit. That was very inconvenient. The unit does function well and with only a few attempts find it to suit the needs of our historical society for preserving documents and photos.
